Meanwood – July 2017
Meet Milo, the Meanwood surgery Pet of the Month for July 2017. Milo first came to see us back in April. His owner had noticed that he had been a little under the weather and was losing weight. Following a clinical examination, we advised that it was sensible to run some blood tests.
Once Milo’s blood test results returned, we were able to diagnose him as suffering from Hyperthyroidism. This is a condition that causes the thyroid gland to over-produce thyroid hormones and is relatively common in older cats. To begin treating Milo’s Hyperthyroidism, we prescribed some medication to bring his blood values to normal levels. He was then to re-visit us after three weeks for a check up, before further treatment.
After three weeks, Milo came back to see us. Unfortunately, the last few days of his treatment had seen a downturn in his condition. He had vomited multiple times and become lethargic. These symptoms were most likely as a result of his medication.
The next step in Milo’s treatment was a referral to the Hyperthyroid Cat Centre. This centre is able to offer Radioactive Iodine Therapy, which provides a complete cure from Hyperthyroidism in 99% of cases.
Following his treatment, Milo is now doing well. He has recovered well from his stay at the centre, and is now completely cured of his hyperthyroidism! We’re secretly hoping that he may develop superpowers after his brush with radioactive treatments!
After his intensive treatment, we think that Milo is a worthy winner of our Pet of the Month award. We’re also secretly hoping that he may develop radioactive superpowers, after his treatments!
